The Delhi Police has arrested a 41-year-old self-styled godman and his accomplice on charges of cheating several people of nearly Rs 2 crore. These people had “invested” money in the godman’s after being promised a “high monthly return”.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Mandeep Singh Randhawa said the accused, Jaidev Kohli, was posing as Baba Kamal Nayan Vashisht.
“The arrests were made following a complaint lodged by one Nahar Singh from Haryana’s Rewari at the Kalkaji police station last year. Singh said in 2012, he along with 18 other people from Rewari and Jhajjar were enticed by one Dashrath Chauhan and his son Mridul Chauhan, residents of Rewari, to invest money in Bullish Aura Financial Services (India) Limited, a company based in Kalkaji. They were assured returns of 4-6 per cent every month,” he said.

Randhawa said Kohli completed his MBA in finance and marketing from IGNOU in 2007. “He worked with some multinational companies before floating his own finance company to dupe people. When his company went into losses, Kohli became a godman and started a trust, Kamal Nayan Foundation and started duping followers by luring them to make donations,” the DCP said.
“His company was being operated by an associate, Mridul Chauhan. After collecting huge amounts from residents of various villages in Haryana, the imposter shut his company and turned himself into a godman,” Randhawa said.
