Feel harassed, humiliated: Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury

On Wednesday, it rejected Chowdhury’s plea and asked him to vacate the house and move to the one allotted to him on Humayun Road.

Evicted from his official bungalow, Congress MP from West Bengal Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury Thursday shot off a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan saying he has been “subjected to harassment and humiliation” and sought her permission to move a privilege motion.

In a surprise move, authorities on Tuesday had disconnected water and power supply to Chowdhury’s residence — a ministerial bungalow —14, New Moti Bagh. Calling it political vendetta, Chowdhury moved the Delhi High Court. The court Tuesday14 ordered status quo till Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday, it rejected Chowdhury’s plea and asked him to vacate the house and move to the one allotted to him on Humayun Road. Chowdhury had claimed the new house allotted to him in Lutyen’s Delhi would take another 10 to 15 days before it is ready for use.

In his letter to the Speaker, the MP said “I have been subjected to harassment, humiliation… and defamation of my clean image publicly, in presence of media by the Director of Estates, as he had sent his representatives along with police force to evict me…”

“You would be moved to know that… (I) was at home at the time the occurrence took place, and without informing me.. they had snapped the electrical connection to the bungalow. I would appeal to your honour… please feel at your heart that an ex-minister of state and a four time MP living in total darkness in a winter night with his seven-year-old daughter who does not have access to hot water for bathing or lights to complete her homework…”

Chowdhury said his “dignity” and “prestige” have been “severely injured” and sought the Speaker’s permission to move a notice for breach of privilege on the matter.
