Farooqui was granted regular bail in a rape case.
Filmmaker Mahmood Farooqui was granted regular bail in a rape case by a special fast track court for his “good conduct”. He had earlier been granted interim bail by the court.
“Since all witnesses have been examined and final arguments heard… and the fact that Farooqui has attended proceedings on a day-to-day basis while being on interim bail… he is granted regular bail,” said Additional Sessions Judge Sanjiv Jain.
Meanwhile, on the last day of final arguments, the court asked the defence counsel why Farooqui’s wife, Anusha Rizvi, did not confront her husband about the allegations for over a month after she had exchanged emails with the complainant. “A wife cannot keep quiet for so long when there are serious allegations against the husband,” said the judge.
The defence replied: “Rizvi had responded to the email as Farooqui had no access to his laptop at the rehabilitation centre… Her father has also passed away in May 2015 and it was a tough time for the family. In these unusual circumstances, she chose to wait for an appropriate time to talk to her husband in June.”
