Faridabad murder: Police await post-mortem report to confirm rape by victim’s father-in-law

According to the police, the father-in-law had allegedly revealed that he and his family had plotted the murder a week before the incident.

The Faridabad police, probing the murder of a 25-year-old woman, whose decomposed body was found buried in a pit, is awaiting the post-mortem report to confirm the rape confession of the victim’s father-in-law, who allegedly strangled her in April.

The Crime Branch-DLF, Haryana Police, have added rape charges against the father-in-law, who was arrested on June 20, the same day the woman’s body was recovered outside his house in Faridabad.

A police officer told The Indian Express that while the accused had stated during interrogation that he had allegedly raped the deceased, before the murder, they are awaiting the medical and post-mortem reports of the deceased are still awaited.

“He did not tell the family about the (alleged) rape,” the officer said.

Five days after the decomposed body was found beneath a concrete slab, the Crime Branch on June 25 arrested her mother-in-law in the case.

The case was initially being probed as a dowry dispute.

The father-in-law had allegedly confessed that the family had conspired to murder the daughter-in-law due to ongoing domestic disputes, including talks of divorce.

According to the police, the father-in-law had allegedly revealed that he and his family had plotted the murder a week before the incident.

On April 21, he allegedly sent his wife to her relatives in Uttar Pradesh.

The same day, a pit was dug outside their house, the police had said.

The victim was allegedly given sugarcane juice laced with sleeping pills by the father-in-law, and later that night, while she was unconscious, he strangled her with a dupatta. Her body was then buried in the pit with her husband’s assistance, the police said, adding that the family subsequently reported that she had gone missing to mislead people.

The police had initially registered a missing case based on a complaint by the husband on April 25.

While the husband is absconding, the role of the husband’s sister is under investigation.

However, the police intensified the investigation following suspicions and complaints from the deceased’s father that her in-laws were involved in her disappearance. After her body was recovered, additional charges of murder and destruction of evidence were initially added to the case.

The victim, a native of the Firozabad district, got married in June 2023.
