Emergency landing for GoAir plane

Full emergency was declared at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Monday morning after the pilot of a GoAir flight to Bangalore suspected that smoke was emanating from the cargo compartment soon after take off.

Full emergency was declared at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Monday morning after the pilot of a GoAir flight to Bangalore suspected that smoke was emanating from the cargo compartment soon after take off.

The flight,G8-201,departed from the airport at 9.23 am with 165 passengers on board. The pilot alerted the Air Traffic Control of smoke in the aircraft at 9.35 am and demanded permission to land on priority basis under full emergency conditions.

“The captain detected a smoke warning in the cargo compartment and followed the operational procedures to land back in Delhi,” a GoAir official said.

The flight landed safely at 9.41 am and was taken to the isolation bay amid full emergency procedure,with ambulances and fire-brigades positioned along the runway,airport sources said.

“A complete investigation was conducted. No fire or smoke in any cargo bay containers was found. We suspect the smoke warning could be a malfunction,” the official said.

The aircraft,an Airbus A320,is one of the latest planes with the airline,manufactured and pressed into service in 2010.
