If receiving text or voice messages on your mobile phone was not enough, wait till you find a friendly email from your Lok Sabha Congress candidate in your inbox, every day.
The Delhi unit of the Congress is now planning to go all out with an e-campaign in the Capital. Starting next week, the party will be sending customised e-mails to voters in each of the seven parliamentary constituencies. While the IT cell of the Delhi unit is in the process of compiling a database of email addresses across the city, party workers said the unit is trying to tie up with email providers like Yahoo to acquire a database.
Unlike the BJP,the party has so far gone slow in using the Internet for campaigning.
Congress candidates Kapil Sibal (Chandni Chowk) and Mahabal Mishra (West Delhi) have already launched an interactive website and a blog on their own initiative.
We already have a database of over a lakh of people who have been supporting the party and our overall target is to reach around 4 to 5 lakh people, said a party worker. The campaign is mainly targetted at the young voter estimated to be about 39 per cent of the 1.07 crore-strong electorate in the city. The emails will be customised according to the profile of the voter. If its a young person,we will highlight issues that appeal to the young, said a party worker.
