16-year-old girl murdered in east Delhi: Wish her friend would have come forward earlier

The victim’s friend, a minor, has pointed fingers at the elder brother in the murder case and also alleged that both the brothers had sexually exploited her, said police.

While the elder brother (25) has been booked on charges of murdering the girl, he has been booked along with his younger brother (21) on charges of raping the victim’s friend, police added.

Rishi Pal, DCP (East), said, “The victim’s friend alleged that the elder brother had harassed her and the younger brother had raped her.

They had intimidated her and told her not to tell this to anyone. The girl was counselled and her statement was recorded by a woman police officer.”

After the girl’s statement, police said there was evidence to suggest the elder brother had murdered her friend. “Sufficient evidence came on record to suggest that the elder brother had committed the gruesome murder of the minor girl. He tried to burn the body of the girl with kerosene to destroy evidence. We are waiting for the post-mortem report to establish if he had sexually assaulted the victim,” said Pal.

Girl framing my sons: Father of accused

The man accused of murdering the 16-year-old girl in east Delhi was among the people who staged a demonstration seeking justice for her family, according to his father.

“People from area were protesting and my son was also there. How can he commit the crime?” said his 52-year-old father.

Police have arrested his younger son too and both his sons have been charged with rape on the statement of a friend of the victim.

The man claimed his sons were being framed. “I am told that the victim’s friend who gave the statement to police was friendly with my elder son. I don’t know why she named him,” he said. He added that police came looking for his sons on July 30 evening and took them both for questioning.

Police said locals of the area had alleged the brothers were quarrelsome and also involved in looting mobile phones from people travelling on trains. “This is being verified,” said a police officer.
