Protesting against the manner in which various changes are being introduced in Delhi University, members of the Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) continued with an indefinite relay hunger strike outside the Vice-Chancellors office on Thursday.
While the first day had seen around 23 teachers from Ramjas College,Daulat Ram College,Delhi College of Arts and Commerce and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College observing the hunger strike, the second day had 11 teachers from SGTB Khalsa College,Sri Aurobindo (Morning) College,Kirori Mal College and Ram Lal Anand (Evening) College sitting on strike.
The teachers also raised concerns regarding the setting up of a 61-member task force for redefining education by the Vice-Chancellor without seeking the approval of the Academic Council.
What role does the Vice-Chancellor imagine for the Academic Council or the Executive Council if he wishes to appropriate all their decision-making powers? Today, students also extended their support by joining our strike, Saikat Ghosh,a teacher in SGTB Khalsa College, said.
The association also plans to hold a candle vigil on Friday.
Parcham, the cultural group known for their revolutionary and protest songs, who also released their new album today, will perform on Sunday evening and a barefoot march will be taken out on Tuesday evening, he said.
