“We have received a final confirmation from the V-P’s office and he will be the chief guest at DU’s convocation next year,” a senior university administrator said.
At the varsity’s 100th convocation ceremony held on February 24, 2024, then V-P Jagdeep Dhankar was invited as the chief guest. For the event last year, DU had revamped parts of its traditional attire, including angvastras, the stoles worn by members of the administration.
Radhakrishnan, 67, took the oath of office as India’s 15th V-P in September.
Radhakrishnan, a longtime RSS and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, won the September 9 vice-presidential election by securing 452 of 752 valid votes cast, defeating Opposition’s candidate B Sudershan Reddy by a margin of 152 votes. Fifteen ballots were declared invalid.
The election was necessitated after Dhankhar resigned on July 21, citing health complications.
