The family of acid attack victim Preeti Rathi has refused the Rs 2 lakh compensation offered by the Maharashtra government. We never wanted money. Our only demand was a proper CBI probe, Lalit Solanki,Preetis cousin, said.
He said even if they accepted the money, the family would donate it to Stop Acid Attack campaigns head Alok Dixit.
Dixit, however, said,I do not run an NGO. So I cannot accept the donation. But I can suggest ways of utilising it for victims.
Following Preetis death,Home Minister R R Patil had announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh and assured a CBI probe. The probe, has not started.
Preeti (25),a nursing graduate, was attacked by an unidentified man on May 2 after she got off the Mumbai-bound Garib Rath at Bandra Terminus. She was about to join Army Medical College,Colaba,as a nurse.
