Four persons were arrested by the South Delhi Police for cheating hundreds of people in Delhi and the NCR on the pretext of providing domestic helps.
According to the police,the accused Raj Kumar,31,Narayan Sahu,26,Urmila Kujur,23 and Neetu Kujur,19 used to place advertisements in various newspapers about their placement agency promising to provide domestic helps. However,the help,would leave after robbing the employers family.
The police said Kumar was the mastermind of the gang,while Urmila and Neetu,both from Jharkhand,posed as domestic help.
The arrests came after a complaint by Dr P K Malik of NCERT Campus. Dr Malik claimed that he contacted Premi Placement,the agency run by the accused,after seeing its ad in a newspaper.
The agency promised to provide a domestic help for him and Dr Malik was asked to come to Shahpur Jat crossing. According to the complaint,Dr Malik was provided a help after he gave the placement agency Rs 8,000 as advance and commission.
Next day,when the complainant came out of bathroom,he found the maid missing from the house. Some household articles including a digital camera and Rs 40,000 were also found missing, sources said.
The police later arrested the accused from Munirka.
Officials said the accused would give false addresses to their clients. They used to get mobile numbers on fake identity papers and used them only for two-three days. After cheating two-three families,they used to switch off the mobile phones. Complaints are pouring in from different quarters, a senior police officer said.
The police recovered seven mobile phones,sunglasses,digital camera,printed receipts of different placement agencies and police verification forms from the accused.
