17-year-old domestic help falls to death from high-rise near Noida, kin allege she was molested
he family alleged that police were not taking appropriate action and even roughed up some of them.

A 17-year-old house help died Tuesday after allegedly falling from a high rise in Greater Noida West. While police are probing the circumstances that led to the incident, the victim’s family has alleged foul play.
The incident took place in the morning. Police said CCTV footage showed the girl going to the 19th floor from where she fell, but her family alleged she fell from the 8th floor. They also alleged that she was molested and sexually harassed as her “clothes were torn”.
Police said that, prima facie, the allegation of molestation or harassment is not true. “We received a complaint regarding a suicide… Officials immediately reached the spot and CCTV footage was checked. We found that the girl entered the society with her mother at 8.13 am. Around 9 am, she was seen talking to someone over the phone. After that, she went to the 19th floor… Later, the incident happened. We are inquiring into how many houses she worked at. Further legal action will be taken after we receive a complaint from the family,” said Hirdesh Katheriya, Additional DCP (Central Noida).
Following the incident, locals gathered in huge numbers and protested against the police inside society and outside even as personnel were deployed to control the situation. The family alleged that police were not taking appropriate action and even roughed up some of them.
The victim’s mother said she and her daughter were working in the society for the past year. “She was fine today, there is no reason why she would take such an extreme step. A family at the society, for whom we worked, informed me about the incident, but they did not tell me the whole story. When I rushed here, I found my daughter lying on the floor with her clothes torn. I believe she has been assaulted,” cried the woman, demanding strict action.
She also said her daughter did not own a phone. The girl’s father alleged that his daughter did not fall, but was pushed.
Police have registered a case under IPC Section 306 (abetment of suicide) against a person that the girl was believed to be speaking to before she allegedly jumped. “Attempts are on to find and arrest him soon,” said an officer.
