MCD trifurcation back on table, officials scramble

The recent proposal to trifurcate the MCD,India’s biggest municipal corporation,is not a new one. Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had floated the same proposal ahead of the last Assembly polls. However, with just months to go for municipal polls in the city, the trifurcation issue has resurfaced.

However, the proposal is causing rumblings in the civic body. Many MCD officials have been busy calling on their political and bureaucratic masters in the Delhi government for plum postings in case trifurcation becomes a reality.

So miffed workers protested outside the plant.

Dearth of Hindi-medium text books in DU

Despite Delhi University having a Directorate of Hindi Medium Implementation, the lack of Hindi-medium text books in many subjects is now a matter of concern. The National Students Union of India also raised its pitch on the issue during the Delhi University Students’ Union elections.

Directorate officials, however, say that availability of translated books is not the only issue. Lack of teaching in Hindi is also a worry. “There are books on major topics in history translated and kept in the library. But they are not helpful as most students cannot understand complicated topics because the translation is not proper,” said an official.
