A teacher was detained by the police on Saturday for allegedly grabbing a 16-year-old student by the hair and assaulting him over incomplete homework at a coaching centre in Delhi's Munirka. The accused, Anand Kumar, runs Jeevan Deep Education Centre in Munirka, police said, adding that he threatened the student not to disclose the incident to anyone. Police said the incident took place on October 6, when the student went to the coaching centre after school. "A complaint was received on October 9 from the victim, a Class 11 student of a government school in RK Puram, who alleged that he was beaten by his tutor around 8 pm," a senior police officer said. “Anand Kumar asked the student why his homework was incomplete. When the student said that he could not complete his work, as he had been away with his family, the tutor became enraged, caught him by the hair, and assaulted him with fists and kicks on his head, neck, and chest. He then called for a stick and continued beating him on his back and legs,” an officer added. The boy was then allegedly taken to a room and was beaten further. The student informed his parents of the incident after experiencing severe pain, following which he was taken to the Safdarjung Hospital for medical examination. The medico-legal case (MLC) report noted multiple bruises on his right arm, calf and back, the officer mentioned. A case has been registered under sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt) and 127(2) (wrongful confinement) of the BNS at the Kishangarh police station.
