Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday laid the foundation stone for a first-of-its-kind multilevel electric bus depot in West Delhi’s Hari Nagar. “This depot is part of a larger roadmap to make Delhi’s transport not just efficient, but also environment-friendly,” she said.
It was part of the ongoing ‘Sewa Pakhwada 2025’, being held to mark the 75th birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The event was also attended by Transport Minister Pankaj Singh and Education Minister Ashish Sood.
Gupta hailed the project as a “milestone in the DTC’s history” and noted that the depot will redefine working conditions for DTC employees while providing world-class facilities for commuters. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 420 crore and is expected to be completed within 24 months.
“Delhi is witnessing the dawn of a new era in public transport. With this depot, capable of accommodating around 400 e-buses and equipped with state-of-the-art charging infrastructure, our government reaffirms its commitment to clean, efficient, and sustainable mobility. This is not just a bus depot, it is the foundation of a greener, more efficient Delhi,” the CM said.
Gupta also said that the facility is being developed as a financially self-sustainable model. Around 2 lakh sqft of retail and commercial space will be integrated into the complex, generating revenue to offset project expenses. Additional features include 324 car parking slots and space for 104 two-wheelers in the basement. About 26,257 sqft on this location will be developed for DTC offices and dormitories. A modern commercial hub is also on the card.
According to officials, the NBCC has submitted a proposal and will carry out the work.
The upcoming depot will accommodate 384 electric buses with 81 advanced EV charging stations capable of fully charging a bus in just 40 minutes.
