The Delhi Police have claimed to have foiled a major gang war in the capital and arrested two members of the Tillu Tajpuriya gang.
The Special Cell of the Delhi Police said on Tuesday that they arrested Deepak Guliya, 28, and Sahil, 24, from Sector-36 in Rohini, late on August 20, based on tip-offs that the gang members were planning to target rivals from the Jitender Gogi gang, especially those scheduled to appear in court.
A team led by Inspectors Rakesh Kumar and Amit Nara, under the supervision of ACP Rahul Kumar Singh, laid a trap and caught the men before they could meet other gang members, and also recovered arms from their possession.
“During interrogation, the accused revealed that after the murder of gangster Tillu Tajpuriya, the gang is presently being led by Deepak Pakasmia, operating from abroad. Pakasmia had instructed them to target members of the rival Gogi gang, particularly when they were going to appear in court. The arrested shooters were on their way to meet other gang members in Sector-36, Rohini, to execute this plan,” said Amit Kaushik, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Cell.
The police said that Guliya, a resident of Sonipat, came into contact with Tillu while in jail and later joined his syndicate. After Tillu’s death, he was introduced to Pakasmia by Tillu’s brother. Guliya received arms, recruited Sahil, and was allegedly attempting to expand the gang’s network. Sahil, also from Sonipat, had earlier worked as a PVC labourer and was drawn to the gang through promises of money and influence, the police said.
Both men have previous criminal records. Guliya is wanted in a 2019 murder case registered at Gannaur police station in Sonipat, while Sahil is an accused in a 2021 cheating case in Panipat. Police said the recovery of weapons and the timely arrests helped prevent another round of retaliatory killings between the rival gangs. Further investigation is underway.
