Delhi New CM Name Announcement Highlights: Chief minister-designate and first-time MLA from Shalimar Rekha Gupta, along with the six other members of the 7-member Delhi cabinet, met Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena at Raj Niwas late Wednesday to stake their claim to form the government. New Delhi MLA Parvesh Verma is set to become the Deputy CM, and Rohini MLA Vijender Gupta was appointed as speaker of the Delhi Assembly, BJP sources said. The BJP returned to power in Delhi after 27 years, having won a clear majority of 44 out of 70 seats in the Assembly election, the results of which were declared on February 8. The swearing-in ceremony for the new chief minister is scheduled for February 20  at Ramlila Maidan.

Delhi CM swearing-in ceremony at Ramlila Maidan: The swearing-in ceremony of the new Chief Minister and cabinet ministers of Delhi is set to take place at the Ramlila Maidan on Thursday, with the theme of the event likely to be around the consecration ceremony at the Ayodhya Ram Mandir. Over 25,000 to 30,000 are expected to be in attendance, including prominent Hindu seers and members from local communities. Apart from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, popular BJP MPs as well as top NDA leaders are also expected to attend the event tomorrow.

Who are likely to make the cut?: According to party insiders, the names — for CM and Council of Ministers — were likely to include “a mix of experience and youth”, with representation from each of the dominant caste and community groupings in the Capital. In all likelihood, the new Delhi CM will be chosen from among BJP’s elected MLAs and not MPs, with names like Parvesh Sahib Singh, Vijender Gupta, Rekha Gupta, Ashish Sood, Satish Upadhyay and Shikha Roy being discussed as potential candidates, The Indian Express has learnt.
