After much delay, the Bharatiya Janata Party released its vision document detailing the agenda that the party will pursue once voted to power in Delhi.

At a formal press conference attended by the party’s chief ministerial nominee Kiran Bedi and Union ministers Ananth Kumar, Harsh Vardhan and Nirmala Sitharaman, BJP Delhi president Satish Upadhyay said the party will opt for revamping of infrastructure in Delhi to ensure delivery of essential services.

“We will realise the dreams of the people of Delhi and we have addressed all key issues in this vision document,” said Upadhyay. He added that the party will aim to make Delhi a smart city by addressing all issues related to transport, housing, water shortage and environment.

However, the BJP did not spell out the party’s position on the issue of statehood for Delhi which it had promised in earlier manifestos in 2013. Sitharaman said the issue is important for the party and that it will discuss the issue with the stakeholders before taking a final decision.

Bedi reaffirmed the party’s commitment to all sections of society and promised that there would be no tolerance to corruption. She also spoke of 24×7 water supply, regular field visits by bureaucrats and government officers along with digitization of government offices.

“The best practices from other states would be implemented in Delhi,” she added.

In a snob to AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal, Bedi said that BJP would adopt collaboration, and not confrontation, with the union government.

She added that ensuring “utmost transparency” and making police accountable will be the BJP’s focus area.

“An Expert Advisory Committee on matters of strategic importance will be set up which means the party will not only follow the vision of its leaders but will also rope in experts,” she said.

In the aftermath of multiple racist attacks on people belonging to the northeastern states, the BJP has promises to set up a Special Cell in all police stations along with a special 24-hour helpline. Besides, to safeguard the students from the Northeast, special guardianships will be arranged with local families for them, the saffron party also promised.

Delhi will go to polls on February 7 and the votes will be counted on February 10.
