The operation also uncovered connections to notorious drug traffickers based in Canada, according to another officerA cross-border drug trafficking cartel has been busted with the arrest of 10 persons and seizure of 1,667 grams of high-quality heroin and 130 grams of a suspected chemical substance, believed to be drugs, the Delhi Police said on Saturday. A team of the Crime Branch also seized two motorcycles used for drug distribution, and Rs 10 crore worth of properties linked to the cartel. An officer said the extensive operation successfully dismantled the well-organised drug syndicate with strong international and domestic linkages.
According to Special Commissioner of Police (Crime) Devesh Chandra Srivastva, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) conducted the operation over the last few days, after which they made arrests and seizures.
The cartel, which operated across Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), Rajasthan’s Mewat, and Delhi, had international links extending to Afghanistan and Pakistan. “Faheem Farooq, 37, from Srinagar, who was found in possession of 996 grams of heroin, is among the key accused who have been arrested,” Srivastva said.
Faheem’s questioning led to the arrest of Shazia Peer, another accused allegedly linked to the network, who admitted to trafficking heroin across various countries, including the United Kingdom and the United States, the officer said. The officer said further investigation led to the identification of other cartel members, including Parminder Singh alias Harry, a drug supplier from Punjab, and Salwinder alias Gora, another key member.
The operation also uncovered connections to notorious drug traffickers based in Canada, according to another officer. “During the investigation, multiple arrests were made in Punjab, where significant quantities of heroin were recovered,” the officer said.
With multiple key arrests and substantial seizures, the investigation remains ongoing to identify and apprehend remaining associates, an officer said.
