Construction waste dumped at MG Road station; HUDA says need 2 months to clear
Construction debris piled up in front of the MG Road Metro station due to ongoing work on an under-construction service lane is posing a major inconvenience for Metro commuters. Adding to their disadvantage is poor lighting in the area.
According to the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA),which is carrying out construction work of the service lane and a green belt in the area,it will take at least two months to wind up work and remove the material lying there.
We are doing our best, since the green belt has to be in place before the Commonwealth Games. The construction material is being used to lay the road,so makes no sense to shift the matter to another spot and then carry it back to the site. We have put up warning signages in the area to avert any untoward accidents, said Gurgaon HUDA Administrator Nitin Yadav.
The DMRC claimed they had written to the HUDA several times about the problems being faced by commuters, the last letter sent barely a week ago.
Commuters complain of being at the receiving end. Apart from being an eyesore, the matter becomes worse during the rains. The road gets submerged underwater, and the construction material makes it difficult to drive. Residents vehicles have been damaged due to potholes, said a resident.
Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon,Rajesh Khullar, said the matter had not been reported to them yet. He added challans would be issued to the defaulting authority if the need arose.
