Following the direction, these special camps for the housing scheme, which was recently announced as Delhi gears up for Assembly elections due in February, were launched in various parts of the Capital on Saturday.
Under the special housing scheme, construction workers would be offered 700 EWS flats in Narela at a 25% discount, and autorickshaw and taxi drivers would get discounted prices for EWS and LIG flats in Narela, Loknayakpuram and Siraspur. The Delhi Building and other Construction Workers Welfare Board is organising the special camps for the propagation of the scheme and verification at large construction sites. Priority will be given to the workers who are labourers, slum dwellers, and those who live in rental accommodations. For the war widows, ex-servicemen, and recipients of gallantry and Arjuna awards, the Rajya Sainik Board, set up to ensure the welfare of ex-servicemen, will conduct outreach programmes.
The Transport Department was directed to hold awareness campaigns among autorickshaw drivers and taxi drivers.
L-G Vinay Kumar Saxena also directed Commissioner MCD, Secretary, Department of SC/ST and Secretary, Social Welfare, to hold special camps for street vendors, people belonging to SC/ST communities, and persons with disabilities. The Department of Women and Child Development will hold these camps for women to facilitate the participation of women in these schemes.
The Delhi Scheduled Caste Finance and Development Corporation Limited (DSFDC) will facilitate loans for applications from people belonging to the SC/ST category, and the Vice Chairman DDA will ensure the presence of officers concerned at each campsite.
