The Dhaula Kuan rape would never have been solved had one of the accused,Shamshad,not made a call from his mobile phone after dropping the victim in Mongolpuri. Delhi Police got their first clue when the woman told them that she had seen one of the accused make a call soon after they let her go. The involvement of a Mewat gang came to light after the police found that a number from Mewat was used in the area around the time described by the victim. But it was no easy task as the Delhi Police had to analyse details of around 150 mobile phones sourced from eight mobile operators. It was found that three phones were used to make outgoing calls from Mongolpuri between 2 am and 2.15 am. While two of them belonged to locals in Mongolpuri,one number was from Haryana and a call had been made to Mewat. We found that the number belonged to one Shamshad in Mewat and started tracking him, said a source. Soon,four police officers from Mewat were sent to the area to gather more information. Meanwhile,fourth accused Iqbal,who is in police custody since his arrested from Fatehpur Beri village in Sohna,will be produced in court on Monday. Usman and Shamshad had been arrested on Thursday,while another accused Shahid surrendered in a court in Faridabad. The police are still on the lookout for Kamru. WE HAD PLANNED TO PICK UP A GIRL FOR FUN After he was arrested from Dhauj along with co-accused Usman,Shamshad was interrogated for long hours before he admitted to his crime. In his disclosure statement,exclusively accessed by Newsline,Shamshad describes the sequence of events. On November 23,me,Usman,Shahid,Iqbal alias Bada Billi and Kamru were together in the village. We usually come to Delhi for stealing cows in a pick-up truck. We consumed alcohol near the nahar (canal) of our village and then headed towards Delhi. We refilled our petrol tank at the filling station in Ashram and started driving towards Dhaula Kuan on the Ring Road. We had already planned to pick up a girl for fun. We saw these two girls in a cab and followed them till Mochi village. We parked our tempo on the lane inside. Kamru had a countrymade pistol with him and he forced the girl to sit in the tempo. We wanted to pick both the girls,but second girl managed to free herself. Shahid was driving the tempo and we went towards West Delhi on the Ring Road. Kamru first raped the girl in the moving tempo. We could not decide where to take the vehicle. After reaching Mongolpuri,we saw a secluded road where we parked and took turns to rape the woman. We dropped Rs 150 in the girls bag after that, Shamshad said in his statement,adding that they then returned to their homes.
