The vigilance branch of the police registered a case of corruption against constable Chunni Lal, enlisted in South Campus police station, for allegedly demanding Rs 20,000 and crackers from a shopkeeper in exchange for permitting him to sell crackers.
Police registered the FIR on the basis of evidence recorded by the complainant on his mobile phone and submitted to police via WhatsApp to the Vigilance Helpline No. 9910641064.
The video was recorded by the complainant on various dates in October 2014, coinciding with the celebration of Diwali, police said.
“The complainant had a valid licence to sell crackers, but the constable threatened to implicate him in a false case of selling spurious crackers.

The recording reveals the constable taking away crackers without payment, despite the repeated requests of the complainant.
The constable then stated that a charge of anotherRs 5,000 will be put on the complainant to meet Diwali expenses, the police said.
A case has been registered under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
