Cop assaulted in road rage incident, 4 arrested

The officer, currently posted at Bhajanpura police station and working with the Static Surveillance Team (SST) in connection with election duties, was allegedly manhandled by four individuals after his two-wheeler got stuck behind a car on a narrow bridge.

Four men have been arrested after a Delhi Police sub-inspector, who has been deployed on election duty, was allegedly assaulted and injured in a road rage incident in the early hours of Friday. According to the police, the incident occurred around 12:30 am when the officer was returning home from duty.

“A video of an assault of a police officer by 4-5 persons in the area of Bhajanpura is being circulated on social media platforms. A case has been registered at Bhajanpura police station. All four accused involved in the incident were identified and arrested within hours. Further investigation in the matter is in progress,” said DCP North East, Ashish Mishra. The accused were identified as Harsh (24), Avnit (25), Himanshu (29), and Mayank (28).

According to a police official, the police officer was returning from duty on his bike when he saw a car blocking the road. “Four people were standing outside the car and were talking and eating. He asked them to move the vehicle aside, upon which the four started arguing with him,” the police official said. Following the attack, a case under sections 115(2), 126(2), and 3(5) was registered.
