Former Police Commissioner B K Gupta on his last day in office said he had a wonderful tenure leading the Delhi Police. Gupta said his tenure was very challenging, but satisfying as he had produced the desired results. Before leaving the gates of the police headquarters he said the lower functionaries of the police, especially the constables were the real heroes. Constables have to be treated with respect as they are the ones who perform their duty while standing in the scorching heat of around 45 degrees Celsius. It is easy to talk about policing sitting in air-conditioned rooms, but the constables do not have that comfort. Some of them travel more than two hours and come to work here for around 12 hours, he said. Talking about the successful operations during his tenure,Gupta said street crime had decreased drastically. The Special Cell and the Crime Branch was revamped. We arrested so many terrorists and solved almost all cases. The backbone of policing is the beat system, and we have managed to revive that.
