The Congress Wednesday sought a Supreme Court-monitored probe into revelations that the world’s largest commercial banknote maker, De La Rue, had contracted a New Delhi businessman to help it bag tenders in India in return for a 15 per cent commission during the NDA regime in 2002.

“The details which have surfaced today with regard to alleged payoffs to bag the Indian bank note contract… have very severe implications. If these revelations are correct, then they are a cause of very serious concern because it is germane to Indian currency which impacts 1.22 billion people in this country,” Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said. He said it was important to know as to “who was the recipient of the Rs 3.74 crore commission”.
