Come Into Fashion

The winter-must haves are out on the racks and now is the time to stock up on those sparkly sheaths.

Check out five trends that will take you fashionably through autumn-winter this year

The winter-must haves are out on the racks and now is the time to stock up on those sparkly sheaths, flamenco red corsets, psychedelic leggings and luxe jackets in dual tones. Here’s a look at what you need to have in your wardrobe to get through winter in style:

BOYFRIEND JACKETS: This season women’s fashion is toasting a masculine moment. Embrace the twin-coloured slouchy boyfriend blazers and jackets. The colour palette is muddy. Take your pick from chocolate, khaki, sage, lilac and even a burnt salmon. “The dirty overtones make it edgy. One can soften the look with layers of chains or art deco jewellery,” says Delhi-based designer Anand Bhushan, whose line of jackets are available at Aza stores. Also check out designer duo Lecoanet Hemant’s line of jackets,in twin tones like olive-green and brown.

LEGGINGS: It’s a trend that has survived a season and looks like its here to stay. They are available in solid colours, stripes and patterns, and the bolder your choice, the better to stand out. Choose from a range of sequinned,printed,tie-dyed and embossed leggings. “It’s youthful, stylish and preppy. One can wear it over long tunics, add a blazer and wear it with solid-coloured flats,” said designer Gaurav Gupta whose creations include tartan tunics and floral leggings.

VELVET: It’s the ‘it’ fabric with the stiletto set,and for those aspiring for the red-carpet look. From elegant embellished jackets to kitschy skirts and fitted bodices, velvet can lend a glamorous look to different kinds of ensembles. Designer Rohit Bal has drummed up a nifty line with generous use of velvet. There’s one thing though that you need to be careful about. “Velvet can look glamorous if it is worn the correct way. An all velvet look is risky,so one can opt for a velvet scarf or a cute clutch to add a touch of classiness to the outfit,” says designer Pam Mehta, whose red-carpet evening gown collection is available at her store in Select Citywalk mall in Saket.

NEON COLOURS: What’s winter without a hint of citrusy colours to liven up the scene? Bright pinks, buttercup yellows, lime greens mix well with browns, khakis, and blacks. You can find that in above-the-ankle boots, sneakers, shrugs and scarves, and of course in structured dresses, sheaths and corsets. “There was a time when neon colours were considered a fashion faux pas. That’s no longer the case, but the trick lies in pairing it right. You should balance it out with neutral and simple colours like pairing an electric blue top with black skinny jeans,” says designer Nida Mahmood, the queen of bling.

COSTUME JEWELLERY: They can spice up the outfit, adding a touch of drama and luxe in the gloomy winter months. “The trend is more towards long necklaces in semi-precious stones that look classy, and oversized cocktail rings,” said Delhi-based jewellery designer Alpana Gujral, whose new line is available at her Lajpat Nagar studio. Oversized metal flower earrings, leaf cutout neckpieces, beads and chains embellished with metal discs, are sure to lend you the girl-about-town look.
