Asian cycling in Delhi
The Indira Gandhi Stadium’s velodrome will host international cyclists for the first time after the Commonwealth Games,at the Asian Cycling Championships in 2013 which has been awarded to India for that year,Cycling Federation of India’s president Parminder Singh Dhingra announced on Monday. The 12-day event in March will organise both men’s and women’s and senior and junior track and road championships. About 700 participants from 40 countries are expected to line-up for the event.
FIDE rating tourney in Dec
The city is all set to host Delhi Open Fide Rating chess tournament under the All India Chess Federation (AICF) from December 7. The five-day long event will see participants across different age groups vying for a total prize purse of Rs 1.5 lakhs. A maximum of Rs 2,000 will be charged as entry fees from the unrated players,while the rated ones will have to spare 25 per cent lesser amount. The last date for the receipt of entries is December 5th.
Nandrajog loses
Third seed Gaurav Nandrajog of Delhi lost in a thrilling semifinal of the 36th Bombay Gymkhana Maharashtra State Open Squash Championship to world junior number 3 Mahesh Mangaonkar 11-4 11-2 5-11 11-5,according to information reaching here. Mahesh will next meet Sidharth Suchde in the final. However,Delhi racqueteer Uttkarsh Kumar,who is seeded third,had better luck as he upset second seed Shashi Pandey in a five-game semifinal to win 4-11 11-8 11-6 10-12 11-7 in the U-19 category.
Kulachi Hansraj Model win
Kulachi Hansraj Model School bowlers did a fine job to all out Hansraj Model School for 48 runs while they were chasing a target of 108. Tushar Sharma (3/6) and Vishvash Malik (3/12) helped Kulachi beat the Punjabi Bagh side by 59 runs. While batting first,Sidharth Sehwag (27) and Nitin (30 n.o) helped Kulachi put up a defendable total. The win has got Kulachi a semifinal spot in the 1st Mahatma Hansraj U-19 Cricket Tournament at Bharat Nagar Ground.
