A 32-year-old man from Punjab was arrested here for allegedly murdering a person and trying to pass off the body as his own to evade prison term in drug peddling cases,the police said. Karma Agarwal and his associate Satnam (20) allegedly strangulated a man they picked up from a footpath and set his body on fire on May 22,Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) N S Bundela said. “Before setting him afire,Agarwal put his clothes on the victim and left his ID card on the body,” he said. Govt launches cheap meal scheme at seven spots
In an effort to provide subsidised meals to the city’s poor,the Delhi government on Tuesday launched its Jan Ahar scheme to provide meals at Rs 15 at seven spots in the city. Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said the scheme is meant to provide nutritious food to the poor and people working in factories,shops and other establishment who find it difficult to cook on their own.

TA personnel,villagers fight over land
A brawl broke out between a group of Territorial Army (TA) personnel and residents of Bhatti Kala village near Mehrauli on Tuesday after some persons allegedly set ablaze huts on a land contested by both parties,the police said. Villagers had sought two days to remove the encroachment,but the personnel reached the village before due to a miscommunication leading to a violent clash. No one was injured.
