Badminton,table tennis venues get DUAC all-clear
NEW DELHI: After months of delay,the badminton,squash and table tennis venues for the Commonwealth Games have finally got the green signal from the Delhi Urban Art Commission (DUAC). The venues at Siri Fort Sports Complex and Yamuna Sports Complex had been lying in limbo for the last several months after the DDA failed to comply with norms. “The revised proposal was found acceptable with the observation that no trees should be cut,” a member of the Commission said.

Honour killing case: Mother,2 others held
New Delhi: A day after the father and uncle of Asha Saini were arrested for murdering her and her lover,the police claimed to have arrested three more persons in the case. “Asha Saini’s mother Maya,her aunt Khushboo and cousin Sanjeev were arrested from near the Sainis’ residence in Gokulpuri’s C block at 9 pm on Wednesday evening,” said Karnal Singh JCP (Northern Range). The arrests come two days after Asha and Yogesh were allegedly murdered by her family. Asha’s father,Suraj and uncle Om Prakash were arrested on the Monday evening.

Insulated wires for Gurgaon villages
GURGAON: The Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) has decided to replace old naked wires in villages in Gurgaon and Faridabad which have high line losses with Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) insulated cables to ensure safety and check electricity losses. Sudhir Rajpal,MD of DHBVN,said they are also trying to connect consumers with independent cables for which meters could be installed in pillar boxes near the distribution transformers. He added that transformers of smaller capacity would be set up to connect 15 to 20 consumers with one transformer.

Two held for robbing people on Ring Road
NEW DELHI: The police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested two members of a gang who allegedly targeted people for robbery on the Capital’s ring roads during late hours. Sandeep Mal and Jitender Kumar were caught on Tuesday near Brar Square on Ring Road,the police said. The four used to roam on the city’s ring roads in a Santro car after 10 pm and rob people waiting for transport to reach home,the police said. “Since January,they have robbed about 20-25 persons,” a senior police officer said. On June 11,the gang allegedly robbed one Mohammed Jahid Khan of Rs 2,800,his cellphone and other valuables while he was waiting at Dhaula Kuan bus stop. They were also behind a similar robbery on June 13. ENS/pti

NEW DELHI: Delhi University’s Dean’s Students Welfare Office has made the admission process for the Physically Handicapped candidates convenient by keeping a single day,June 23,for all admission related activities. The candidates are now relieved from coming to the University on 22 June only to look at the admission list.

Steady rise of applications under reserved categories
NEW DELHI: The number of students applying through quota to the Delhi University has steadily increased over the years. Under Physically Handicapped and SC/ST quotas,theuniversity has received 18,894 applications this year in comparison to 15,406 applications received in 2009. As many as 456 Physically Handicapped candidates registered this year.

Interviews begin at St Stephen’s College
NEW DELHI: St Stephen’s College started with its interviews for Physics (Honors) and Economics (Honors) courses on Wednesday. Close to 100 students appeared for the interview. There are 50 seats available in each of these courses. Approximately 400 candidates have been selected for interview for Physics Honors,and 250 for Economics Honors.
