To an extent,the rise of the new wave cinema in India can be credited to the emergence of digital technology in filmmaking. The possibility of shooting a film using unconventional means such as still cameras or mobile phones,has contributed to the growth of indie cinema across the world. The annual UFO Digital Film Festival celebrates this very fact.

This year,the festival has returned in its fourth edition and is taking place in Siri Fort,till March 15.

Apart from Indian entries,many international filmmakers have also chosen the festival as a platform to showcase their works. Among the films selected for screening from the 600 entries are Iraqi filmmaker Taha Karimis The Quandil Mountains,Indonesian director Teddy Soeriaatmadjas Lovely Man,Mosa by British director Ana Moreno,and Indian filmmaker Vinay Shuklas short film Bureaucracy Sonata. This year,we have received entries from 55 countries and the quality of the films is very good, says Madhureeta Anand,the festival director.

Italian film editor Gabriella Cristiani and film producer Ruth Charny are representing international cinema at the festival whereas theatre artist Gitanjali Rao,filmmaker Mahesh Mathai and graphic designer Orijit Sen have come on board as the jury members for the digital fest.

The festival comprises 126 film screenings that will compete for six award categories,including Best Feature Film,Best Short Film and Best Documentary Film,among others.
