What do an industrial-factory cloud,a hammer and an opulent pagoda-shaped gateway have in common? These are some photographic images that serve as a metaphor for some Chinese artists showing in the Capital,to express whats on top of their minds.
Titled Chinese Photography Now,the ongoing exhibition at Art Motif in Lado Sarai concludes on August 30. The classic black-and-white images essay the concerns of artists Chu Chu,Liu Yue,Luo Yongjin,Ma Kang,Yang Yongliang and Yan Xinfa.
In a parallel to the booming art scene elsewhere in Asia,contemporary art in China has been flourishing in the new millennium as artists are responding to cultural and economic shifts, says Nancy Gulati of Tasveer,a photography collective that is presenting the show in collaboration with Chinas OFOTO Gallery.
While various mediums of painting,performance and new media have held sway on the Chinese art scene for many years photography is now emerging as an important one. These works are emblematic of the various trajectories,themes and devices being explored by Chinese photographers today.
