Fashion for fun
Before the assortment of fashion weeks invaded our world and insisted fashion was all about business, fashion shows were meant to be fun. Often to sell whisky or vodka. One such fun-only-fashion extravaganza is the hyper successful Blenders Pride Fashion Tour thats been taking designers and their divas to several cities across India
Mumbais turn opened on Friday at the Taj Lands End with some sparkle and sexiness in equal measure. Nandita Mahtanis party frocks had clusters of sequins for added glamour. Never mind some trailed off the dresses even as other hemlines were unintentionally asymmetrical. Wendell Rodricks upped it by a notch with a candy-coloured collection of frocks that were truly edible. Far more than the buff-bod embarrassed male model who opened his show in briefs.
Arjun Rampal and Mehr Jessia cuddled through this one. Kitu Gidwani and Sabira Merchant kept to themselves, while Baroda royalty Pragyashree and Pratapsinh Gaekwad were the most good-looking couple in the bursting room. We were entertained by the very gentlemanly consul general of Turkey,Murat Ahmet Yoruk, who promised hed introduce us to Orhan Pamuk.
Surily Goel did leopard prints even though all of fashion is being as un-sexy as you can. Oh,but what a crowd-puller she is: Shilpa Shetty,Ramona Rodella,Malaika Arora Khan (who greeted us with the biggest hug),Queenie Singh and her gal pals Prerna Goel and Rhea Pillai. And yes,Karan Johar, the newest fashionista in town.
Ashish Soni sent out some well sculpted dresses and delish menswear, but Harbhajan Singh on the runway and Gautam Gambhir on the front row gave this evening a photo-finish.
Showstopper While greeting Nandi we say the problem is that her beauty outshines her clothes,to which she purred: Thats not a problem with me.
