During negotiations, the policemen reduced the bribe to Rs 2.50 lakh on repeated requests of Bansal. The CBI on Tuesday arrested two Delhi Police personnel posted in Central Delhi’s Paharganj police station for allegedly receiving a bribe of Rs 2 lakh.
“We have arrested two men, identified as Sub-Inspector Ravi and Head Constable Rajender Meel, posted at Paharganj Police Station. They were arrested when they were accepting bribe of Rs 2 lakh for not acting against the illegal borewell of the complainant and not stopping construction work on his plot,” said a CBI spokesperson in a statement.
According to the CBI, they have registered a case against the arrested two men and unknown others after they received a complaint from one Kamaldeep Bansal, a resident of Govindpuri area. The investigation team are also probing the role of the concerned SHO and his seniors into this matter.
“I have an ancestral plot in Chuna Mandi area of Pahar Ganj, which has an old borewell. Currently, some construction work is going on in my house. On June 30, I received a call from SI Ravi and was asked to visit police station to meet him. I went to the police station on July 3 where I met with him. He initially threatened me to take action regarding the illegal borewell in the plot and asked me to stop the ongoing construction work,” the FIR stated.
The complainant alleged that SI Ravi then demanded Rs three lakh from the complainant for not stopping his ongoing construction work. “SI Ravi told me that the money is being demanded on the instructions of SHO (Paharganj) Ravindra Tomar and that the SHO is very annoyed because of non-receipt of the demanded bribe amount till now,” Bansal alleged in the FIR.
Bansal approached the CBI which did the verification. “The CBI laid a trap and asked him to meet with the SI Ravi after hiding a recorder. Bansal went to meet him in the police station where he requested to reduce the bribe amount. During negotiations, the policemen reduced the bribe to Rs 2.50 lakh on repeated requests of Bansal. He also requested them to arrange a meeting with SHO Tomar, but both the now arrested police personnel asked him to meet him on his own or through any of his references. Heed constable Meel then asked him to come on July 4 around 11 am and he will give Bansal the details about the meeting with SHO Tomar in person,” the FIR stated.
