CBI books Military Engineering Services officers in corruption case
It is alleged that the public servants made false entries in the measurement books and supervisory officers had passed the bills of contractors, without necessary checks.

The Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) has registered five cases against several officers of the Military Engineering Services (MES) in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur in alleged corruption deals that caused a loss of Rs 16.24 crore to the government by awarding 59 contracts that were “not workable”, officials said.
Apart from booking two Garrison Engineers (GE) and two Assistant Garrison Engineers (AGE), the central agency also registered cases against several other officers and private entities for the corrupt deals between 2020 and 2023. The agency on Friday carried out searches at 12 locations in Jabalpur, Jodhpur, Prayagraj and Shillong on the premises of the accused and firms which led to the recovery of incriminating documents.
The MES officers who are booked are G E Dheeraj Kumar and former GE B M Verma, besides AGE K N Vishwakarma and former AGE Rajeev Bharti, named in all the five FIRs, they said. “It was alleged that the said public servants made false entries in the measurement Books and supervisory officers had passed the bills of these contractors, without making necessary checks,” said a CBI spokesperson.
According to the CBI, the accused allegedly accepted abnormally low rates quoted by the contractors which were not workable. “It was further alleged that these private firms received payments to the tune of around Rs 16.24 crore in collusion with the public servants, without actually carrying out any work on the spot,” the spokesperson said.
“It was alleged that the Garrison Engineer (East), MES, Jabalpur, had awarded around 59 contracts during the financial year 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-23 for various civil, electrical and mechanical and other work in various defence offices/residential complexes to private firms,” the spokesperson said.
