Carpool driver arrested for molesting minor

According to police, the girl, a student of class V, had joined the carpool recently.

A carpool driver was arrested for allegedly molesting a 10-year-old student, when he was dropping her back home on Wednesday afternoon in East Delhi.

Police said the accused had been repeatedly molesting the girl over the last week but she complained against him only on Wednesday.

“The 29-year-old driver, Dharmendra, had been touching the girl inappropriately on several occasions over the past eight days. She did not inform her parents till yesterday as the driver used to threaten her against telling anybody at home. However, the girl finally told her mother. The driver was arrested on charges under the POCSO Act and Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC,” a senior police officer said.

According to police, the girl, a student of class V, had joined the carpool recently. Dharmendra would molest the girl in the van when she was alone after all the children had been dropped off, police said.

Police said when the girl protested, Dharmendra threatened to hurt her parents. The girl, however, complained to her mother after she reached home around 2 pm on Wednesday. Her mother made a PCR call around 3 pm the same day and a case of molestation was registered in Shakarpur police station.

Police traced Dharmendra’s residence to Kalyanpuri through his call data records late on Wednesday night.
