Carjacking at knifepoint in Delhi’s Pandav Nagar, 2 arrested

The Delhi Police said the car is yet to be recovered and one of the accused in the carjacking is on the run.

The Delhi Police arrested two men for allegedly robbing a 53-year-old man of his car at knifepoint in East Delhi’s Pandav Nagar area Friday night. According to the police, three men were involved in the carjacking.

The robbery took place around 9 pm. The victim, Vinod Kumar Sharma, a resident of Sector 14 in Noida, runs a pastry shop in Patparganj. He was driving his car when three men on a motorcycle allegedly intercepted him, threatened him with a knife, assaulted him, and drove away with his vehicle.

The entire incident was captured on a nearby CCTV camera, showing the assailants confronting Sharma, roughing him up, and quickly fleeing the scene in his car while shocked bystanders looked on. The police said the victim sustained minor injuries during the attack and was discharged after receiving medical treatment.

The case was reported through a control room call in the early hours of Saturday, following which an FIR was registered under sections 309(6) [robbery] and 3(5) [common intention] of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Pandav Nagar police station.

A senior police officer Saturday said teams were formed to trace the accused. “CCTV footage is being closely analysed, and technical surveillance has been mounted to identify the suspects. We are also collecting footage from surrounding areas to track the escape route,” the officer said.

On Sunday, the police apprehended one of the accused, Himanshu, from near the Noida border. On Monday, another accused, Shahnawaz was also apprehended. The stolen car, however, has not been recovered. “The matter is under further investigation,” said Abhishek Dhania, Deputy Commissioner of Police, East.

The police suspect that the accused had been following Sharma before targeting him at a relatively isolated stretch.
