Canvas for a Green World

Nature has been the muse for many an artist,its myriad moods reflected in the painted world.

Nature has been the muse for many an artist,its myriad moods reflected in the painted world. The need to protect and preserve the natural world has brought together more than 25 artists in an exhibition titled Conservation on Canvas.

The show begins today at Masala Art gallery,Taj Palace Hotel,and is being hosted by World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) India,and Religare Arts.

The eminent artists participating in the show range from Satish Gujral and Paramjit Singh to Manu Parekh and M Pravat. While Senaka Senanayake’s Rainforest at Sunset depicts the colourful flora of his native Sri Lanka,Delhi-based Parekh’s Melting Snow delves into the organic forms in nature. The other artists,similarly,explore the various facets of the flora,fauna and forces of nature. “Artists,collectors,corporates and people at large are getting more conscious about the environment today and are doing their bit for its conservation,” says Amit Sarup,president,Religare Art,which is curating the exhibition.

The show is a part of an ongoing campaign to protect freshwater riverine species,endangered species and tiger habitats among others.
