Art gallery Paintbrush & Chisel at Lado Sarai has tied up with several art institutes in Thailand,Burma,Vietnam,Cambodia and China to promote affordable art. Their ongoing exhibition,“Siam Today”,is showcasing the works of Thai artists from Chaing Mai University ,Poh-Chang Academy of Arts and Raja Mangla University among others. “The paintings that we import are the ones which have been made by artists for their PhD. These artists are students with seven to eight years of experience,” says gallery owner Ravi Chadha.

The paintings demonstrate the current flavour of Thai art and the techniques ranges from woodcuts, collographs and paper blocks to lithographs and canvases in acrylic or mixed media.

The works explore several unconventional themes like Tusanavit Jitmunkarn’s woodcut titled Bait which shows fish baiting humans,or Chainarong Kongklin’s Season of Harvesting which highlights the contrast between the onerous American life and the serene Thai existence. The vibrant paper blocks,on the other hand, are more decorative in style and are perfect to add colour to a child’s room.

The collographs are priced from Rs 9,500 to Rs 10,000,the canvases range from Rs 40,000 to Rs 70,000,the mono-print woodcuts are between Rs 30,000 and Rs 40,000 and the paper block prints will cost you from Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000. It may disappoint some art-lovers that the gallery has done away with the standard practise of printing catalogues.

The exhibition is on till June 12. Contact: 981101778.
