Attack premeditated, says family of girl who was gangraped, killed

The main accused, along with four of his friends, had taken turns to rape the girl and then killed her, said the police.

The girl’s mother claimed that a few hours before the attack, the main accused, who was known to the family, had asked a neighbour for an iron rod.
“My neighbour told us the next day that he had asked for a rod. He said he wanted it to kill a snake, which had entered his house,” said the girl’s mother. She also ruled out the possibility of personal enmity.

“We did not know what was going on and what made him do this to my daughter. We were all attending the fair and had no clue of what he was up to,” she said.
The girl’s father, who owns a local shop, claimed that the accused owed him Rs 600.

“We were too scared to ask him for the money. We had heard a lot of complaints about him in the village,” he said.

Other residents of the village pointed out that the accused had a police record. “He had been embroiled in fights with some residents. He even had a case against him in the Kundli police station,” said one of them.

The accused had been arrested on charges of theft but released on bail, said a police officer. The other four alleged rapists were friends of the accused and worked as labourers, said the officer.

The girl’s family members also alleged that the father of the accused had threatened them after the incident. “His father warned us of dire consequences if something happened to his son. We are scared,” said the girl’s father.
