An alert security ATM guard and two Delhi Police constables foiled a robbery attempt in west Delhi’s Uttam Nagar area, said police Thursday.
Three men on a motorcycle tried to target the Kotak Mahindra Bank ATM kiosk, Rama Road Branch, Wednesday evening, said police. They made the attempt when a cash replenishment van had come to put money in the ATM. Two of the three robbers flashed their weapons and walked towards the ATM, while one stayed on the motorcycle. K K Sharma, the ATM security guard, raised alarm and custodians inside pulled down the shutter.
One of the robbers, later identified as Gurmeet, fired once and the bullet hit the ATM’s shutter, ricocheted and grazed Sharma’s chin, said police. On hearing the commotion, beat constable Joseph Thomas and another constable, Harbans Hooda, who is posted with Supreme Court security, ran and overpowered Gurmeet (22), said police. His aides, however, managed to escape. Sharma was taken to hospital, said police. He is stated to be out of danger, police added.
