Woman among 4 held for loan fraud
The South Delhi police have arrested four persons,including a woman,for cheating people by promising to provide easy loans from various fictitious finance firms they opened on fake identities. Police recovered Rs 85,000,a car,a laptop,20 mobile phones,47 SIM cards,13 fake driving licences,6 fake PAN cards,15 debit cards and 13 cheque/pass books from their possession. Police said the accused were arrested on the complaint of one Pradeep Kumar who alleged he was duped of Rs 35,000 by the gang who promised to provide him a loan of Rs 8 lakh from a finance firm.
Body of 2-day-old baby found on KG Marg
The body of a two-day-old baby was found in a dustbin on Kasturba Gandhi Marg on Thursday. The body was discovered around 8 am by a NDMC safai karamchari on Balwant Rai Mehta Lane. Police suspect someone left the body in the dustbin after the baby died. Police said they were checking hospitals and maternity homes in the area to identify the babys parents.
The Delhi High Court on Thursday issued summons against actor Vivek Oberoi and his company Yashi Multi Media Pvt Ltd (YMMPL) in a recovery suit worth nearly Rs 4 crore filed against him. Justice S Ravindra Bhat sought Oberois reply by November 1 on the suit filed by Mehta Entertainment,a company that promotes entertainment business in India and abroad. The firm alleged Oberoi had taken $ 300,000 but failed to perform in USA in August 2003 as per the contract. The firm said despite repeated legal notices for recovery of the amount,Oberoi did not respond.
T3 facing teething troubles,admits Patel
Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel on Thursday admitted that teething troubles are affecting the T3 of the Delhi Airport,causing congestion at peak hours. Replying to a question in the Lok Sabha,Patel said the number of passengers and flight operations have increased significantly,leading to congestion.
He,however,denied that basic facilities like drinking water for passengers were lacking.
Unauthorised crane use: Lodge FIR,cops told
A local court has directed the Delhi Police to register an FIR and unearth the alleged conspiracy among the policemen for allowing the release of a crane to an unauthorised person. It is prima facie clear that the vehicle was released without the knowledge of the registered owner in collusion with the police, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Raj Kumar Tripathi said. The court was hearing a criminal case on an accident caused by the crane last year.
MCD contractors withdraw strike
Municipal contractors on Thursday withdrew their tool-down strike for over two weeks after the MCD granted them payment of dues till September last year. The contractors had been agitating since July 21 demanding a clearance of dues pending for over 18 months.
