Rohini helipad clears first hurdle
The Environment Ministry has approved the terms of reference for the development of the countrys first fully automated helipad in the Capital. To be constructed by Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd of the Ministry of Civil Aviation,the Rs 65-crore helipad is proposed to be spread over 25 acres in Sector 36,Rohini,official sources said. The plot has been allotted by DDA as per the Masterplan of Delhi
Bangladeshi held with stolen computer
Mohammed Masoom was,a 23-year-old Bangladeshi national allegedly involved in at least 23 cases of burglary and vehicle theft,was arrested in the capital on Wednesday. Police nabbed him from the Pragati Vihar Hostel area as he was trying to dispose of a new computer set,said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H G S Dhaliwal. An computer with a flat screen monitor,gold chain,mobile phones,SIM cards,memory cards and a stolen motorcycle have been recovered from him.
MCD to allow functions in parks
With the Delhi Police planning to take over 50 of the 216 municipal community centres for security purposes before the Commonwealth Games,the MCD said on Wednesday that it will open some temporary sites for weddings and other social functions to ensure the public is not inconvenienced. The MCD will temporarily allow social ceremonies to be organised in some of its parks if the need arises,officials said.
HC allows shift of night shelter
Directing the authorities to provide necessary amenities to the homeless,the Delhi High Court on Wednesday allowed the MCD and the Slums and JJ department to shift a night shelter from Sarojini Nagar to Sarai Kale Khan. The court agreed to the request of the NDMC,which said it required the school premises in Sarojini Nagar as the new academic session was to begin very soon. The court also told the authorities to conduct a recce of other night shelters in the Capital to ascertain if more homeless people could be accommodated in the future.
Telgi gets 7-yr term,fined Rs 1 lakh
Abdul Karim Telgi,kingpin of the fake stamp-paper scam,was sentenced to seven years of imprisonment on Wednesday in a proceeding held through video-conferencing at a city court. Special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Judge P S Teji sentenced him for entering a criminal conspiracy with public servants,tampering with evidence and influencing investigation. The court also imposed a fine of Rs.1 lakh. The court has fixed June 2 as the next date of hearing.
HC stays elections to Ward No 78
The Delhi High Court on Wednesday directed the Election Commission not to hold elections for the post of councillor in Ward No 78 of Majnu Ka Tila area in North Delhi till further orders. Following a single judges order on April 13 that set aside the BJP candidate Satish Kumars election to the post,the NCT government had requested the Election Commission to hold elections. Kumar,however,challenged it before Division Bench that passed the stay order.
