The new road underbridge connecting Keshav Puram and Britannia will be functional from May 21. The bridge will ease congestion in North,Northwest and West Delhi. The project,at an estimated cost of Rs 34 crore,was to be jointly implemented by the Railways and MCD. Although conceptualised a decade ago,it was delayed due to administrative hurdles.

Snatching: Insurance co staff,student held
Losses incurred due to IPL betting led a private insurance company employee and a student into snatching mobile phones. Police recovered seven stolen phones from Anuj Yadav and Vivek,residents of Sangam Vihar,who were arrested in Baba Gang Nath Marg on Monday. On March 3,the duo allegedly snatched the purse of a woman from Defence Colony,containing a mobile phone,camera and cash,and on May 8 they snatched a mobile phone from a pedestrian in Saket.

Man arrested for stealing motor parts
A man was arrested in the Capital for the alleged theft of articles meant for export from container trucks,the police said on Wednesday. “Ram Roop from Azamgarh was caught in Prahlad Pur last week with motor parts,” Additional Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Virender Chahal said. The parts belonged to Manesar-based Maxop Engineers and were allegedly stolen en route the depot in Okhla with help from the truck driver Sanjay and four accomplices,who are on the run.

MCD seeks IIT help on mosquito menace
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has sought help from the Indian Institute of Technology,Delhi and Delhi Technical University to prevent mosquito breeding in the stormwater drains during the coming rainy season. The drains,built on both sides of major roads in Delhi can be huge mosquito breeding grounds,spreading diseases like malaria and dengue.
“We have written to the institutes to recommend better ways to drain out the newly-built drains,” said MCD Municipal Health Officer N K Yadav.

Bengal Naxal attack: Trains delayed
Several trains including Rajdhanis were delayed due to the Naxal attack in the Gidhni-Jhargam section,Kharagpur Division of South Eastern Railways. More than six East-bound trains had to be rescheduled from the Capital and several athers arrived at the New Delhi Railway station over eight hours late.

19-yr-old ends life in Sarojini Nagar

A 19-year old girl from Ladakh,on a visit to her maternal grandfather’s house here,allegedly committed suicide on Wednesday afternoon,the police said. The deceased,Mingur Angmo was found hanging from the ceiling inside her grandfather’s house in Sarojini Nagar. The girl had recently appeared for her Class XII examinations and was said to be anxious about her performance,police said. A suicide note was recovered from her possession.

NGO seeks pension for sex workers
A NGO representing the city’s sex workers petitioned the MCD on Wednesday for old-age pension to those above 50 years. President of Bhartiya Patita Uddhar Sabha,Khairati Lal Bhola raised the demand when he met Delhi Mayor Prithvi Raj Sawhney. In March,the MCD had cleared a proposal to include eunuchs in its pension scheme for the elderly,the disabled and widows.
