Constable hangs self
A constable deputed with the Special Operation Group,Ghaziabad,allegedly committed suicide at his Nand Gram residence. The body was discovered hanging from the window bars by his wife on Thursday morning. When Narendra Sharma returned home last night,he was in an inebriated condition. Soon after,three unidentified persons visited him and demanded money from him and they had a scuffle over the issue,his daughter told the police. After the men left,his wife also had a quarrel with him. We are investigating the suicide angle and the body has been sent for postmortem, Ghaziabad SSP Raghuveer Lal said. Sharmas wife used to often quarrel with him,the police said.
Man held for bid to sell sister
The Ghaziabad police have arrested a man,who was trying to sell his sister for Rs 20,000,and four others who were involved in the selling. The man lived in slum area of Loni and had come from Guwahati to earn a living. He fixed a deal with two persons,Rajpal and Dharam Pal,with the help of middlemen Babu Khan and Alam Ali to sell his 17-year-old sister on Wednesday night at Jarcha Village of Gautam Budha Nagar. After receiving a tip-off,the police arrested all the men. The accused have been sent to 14 days police custody.
Two held for auto theft
New Delhi: With the arrest of two youths,Mohammad Sajid (28) and Mohsin Khan (28),the South Delhi Police claimed to solved ten cases of vehicle theft. They were arrested four days ago and since then police have recovered three bikes,three scooters and four auto-rickshaws from them.
Chain-snatcher arrested
New Delhi: The Northeast Delhi Police have arrested a chain-snatcher,Ram Gopal (22),who was involved in a dozen cases,and a father-son duo,who used to buy the stolen items. Gopal was arrested from Nand Nagri on Wednesday,while Munna Lal (48) and his son Jitender (19) were picked up after Gopals interrogation. Police have recovered a stolen motorcycle and eight snatched gold chains.
Rs 8 lakh looted from office
New Delhi: Four robbers held employees of a cash collection agency hostage at gun-point in West Delhi on Wednesday night and decamped with Rs 8 lakh,police said on Thursday. Police officials said robbers carrying knives and revolvers barged into the first-floor office of Revenue Plus Solutions in Kirti Nagar and snatched the cash from the cashier. A case of robbery has been registered.
Life term for killing brother
New Delhi: A Delhi court on Thursday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his elder brother over a financial dispute three years ago. Additional Sessions Judge K S Mohi also awarded a fine of Rs 20,000,besides the life term to Nanku Yadav,after holding him guilty of the murder. According to the prosecution,Yadav had inflicted 12 stab injuries on Biltu on August 12,2007 following a spat on the distribution of money received through the business of letting out of cycle rickshaws.
