Property dealer held for shooting man dead
New Delhi: A property dealer,who allegedly killed a man during a fight between two groups,was arrested in East Delhi. The incident occurred when the accused,Pramod Giri and his associates had an argument with another property dealer Brijpal Tewatia and his gang over payment for a land that was to be registered in the name of the latter on December 14. Amit Chaudhury was shot dead when the two groups opened fire during the argument. He was not involved in the fight,but suffered a bullet injury, Ashok Chand,Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime),said. Giri was arrested from the Mayur Vihar Metro station on December 20 following a tip-off. A sophisticated pistol along with three live cartridges was recovered from his possession.
Woman attacked by brother,injured
New Delhi: A 19-year-old girl was attacked with a knife and injured by her brother in Paharganj after she got married against her familys wishes on November 23. A senior police officer said,Chandravati had been living with her husband Rajan (23). At 10 pm on December 21,her brother Subhash stormed into their house and stabbed her. Chandravati was rushed to a hospital nearby and discharged after first-aid. Subhash has been arrested.
MCD drive on against unauthorised structures
New Delhi: The MCD continued its drive against unauthorised constructions and removed 300-350 temporary structures from Gurudwara Road,Madangeer,here on Thursday. An MCD official said: The encroachments were in the form of extended projections,temporary structures and tin sheds built illegally on public land. In an another encroachment removal action in West Zone,action was taken against 25 properties in D-block,Raghuveer. The civic bodys South Zone demolished unauthorised portions in 18 properties and sealed eight others.
Police take on illegally parked vehicles
New Delhi: To clear up the streets of parked vehicles that obstruct traffic,MCDs Karol Bagh Zone,along with the Traffic Police,on Thursday removed 16 cars and 24 two-wheelers from the Arya Samaj Road,Naiwala,and its surrounding areas. Most of them were second-hand vehicles that had been put up for sale by local dealers. Action was also taken against vehicles that were parked on the side of the road for repair and dent-fixing work.
Trains diverted due to Gurjjar agitation
New Delhi: The ongoing agitation by Gurjjars has caused 31 trains that originate from,or pass through Delhi,to be diverted. The agitation has caused six trains to be cancelled. Fog also affected railway services,delaying 35 Delhi-bound trains and causing eight to be rescheduled.
Pvt airlines can take up ground-handling: HC
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court,in an interim ruling,allowed private airlines to undertake ground-handling services,except 13 security-related functions,by themselves until further orders are issued.
