A Delhi court sentenced a Nigerian national to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh under the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Act of 1985 for possession of 3.955 kgs of heroin.

A Delhi court sentenced a Nigerian national to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh under the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Act of 1985 for possession of 3.955 kgs of heroin. Ambrose Ihecherobi Okeke was caught on December 12,2005,during a raid by officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence at the Roop Nagar roundabout. Off-white coloured granular powder,which later tested positive for heroin,was recovered from his shoulder.

Geelani fined for ‘frivolous plea’
The Delhi High Court on Monday dismissed,with costs of Rs 10,000,a “frivolous” petition of Delhi University professor S A R Geelani in a case of tendering a false address in a judicial proceeding. Geelani had approached the High Court against the summoning order issued by a trial court for allegedly providing a fake address while standing surety for Mirza Iftikhar Hussain,an accused in the 1996 Lajpat Nagar bombing.

VC completes 5 years,DUTA protests
While Vice-Chancellor Deepak Pental completes five years in office on Tuesday,the Delhi University Teachers’ Association has vowed to make the university “non-functional” if he “continues even for a single day”. Pental,on the other hand,said that the Search Committee for the new vice-chancellor will meet in September,and that he has no intention of leaving till then.

‘Godman’ gets bail,but will remain in jail
Metropolitan Magistrate Ravinder Singh on Monday granted bail to self-styled godman Shiv Murat Dwivedi,accused of running a sex racket in Delhi,on furnishing a personal and surety bond of Rs 25,000 each. Dwivedi,in jail since February this year,will however remain in jail since another bail plea in a matter lodged under MCOCA is still pending.

MBA student ends life,reason unclear
Ghaziabad:
A 24-year-old MBA student allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his rented accommodation in Pratap Vihar on Sunday night. Police are yet to ascertain the reason behind him the extreme step. Police said Puneet Mishra was pursuing an MBA course. “No suicide note was found,” said Ghaziabad SSP Ragubir Lal.
