Yamuna level to recede
Even as the Yamuna level rose to 205.97 metres on Saturday,officials said the water would start receding in the absence of any discharge from the higher reaches of the river. The water level would start receding as there has been no report of rainfall in the foothills in the last 24 hours, said V P S Tomar,Chief Engineer,Irrigation and Flood Control Department.
Journalist found dead
The police found a 70-year-old journalist dead at his Hari Nagar home in West Delhi late on Friday night. Jagdish Chandra,who had worked as a sub-editor in Kadambini,had deep stab wounds under his eyes. The police suspect a property dispute behind the murder. Investigations are on.
Three held for extortion
With the apprehension of three persons,Devender alias Babloo,Satish and Hari Singh,the Northwest district police claimed to have solved a case of extortion. They allegedly threatened a local factory owner,Ajay Gupta,asking him to deliver certain amount.
Games test event today
Delhi is hosting the Tour De Delhi Cyclothon on Sunday a test event for the Games. International cyclists from over 10 countries,including Germany,Holland and Belgium,would be competing in the tournament that will be the second largest cycling event in Asia and the second International cycling event to be held in the country after Tour De Mumbai – Mumbai Cyclothon 2010. Major roads of Central Delhi,including Ashoka Road Janpath,Rajpath and Sansand Marg will face traffic diversion during the event.
Four robbers held
The Delhi Police apprehended four members of gang who were involved in dozens of cases of robbery and attempt to murder. The accused are Kanvar Khan,Aman Kumar,Rajender Kumar and Naveen Kumar. ENS
