Want Rs 3500 cr to pay salaries: MCD
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Thursday wrote to the Delhi government demanding Rs 3,539 crore in grant and Rs 1,000 crore in loan to pay salaries and arrears to its employees and also under other heads of expenditure. Leader of MCD Subhash Arya said they have sent a note to Delhi Finance Secretary and expect to meet him soon to discuss the matter.

Minor,4 held for murder
Five youths,including a minor,were apprehended for allegedly murdering a 28-year-old taxi driver and fleeing with his car,police said on Thursday. Police said Baldav Singh,a resident of Punjab’s Gurdaspur,was killed on July 17. “The accused booked Singh’s taxi on the pretext of going to a wedding in Janakpuri. They took Singh to an isolated place in Prahaladpur and strangulated him. After dumping his body in Sultanpur,they smashed his face with stone to hide his identification,” the police said.

16-year-old electrocuted
A 16-year-old boy was electrocuted in Northwest Delhi’s Shakurpur on Thursday evening after he came in contact with electric wires on the roof of a house. The incident took place in JJ Colony when Rohit Kumar when to the roof of a building to recover a ball while playing cricket in an adjacent park.

Mock drills in Gurgaon
Gurgaon: In the run-up to the Commonwealth Games,Gurgaon Joint Commissioner of Police Alok Mittal said the police will carry out two mock drills before August 10 to check the preparedness and co-ordination between various agencies. “By on-site mock drill,we will check the shooting range at CRPF camp,Kadarpur. The off-site drill will be carried out en route or at a busy mall or Metro station,” said Mittal. Depending on the outcome of the drills,changes in response plan can be made.

2 held with leopard skin
The Delhi police arrested two persons,residents of Himachal Pradesh,with leopard skin worth Rs 6 lakh near Mother Dairy in East Delhi’s Pandav Nagar on Wednesday. Police said Harender and Anil were trying to sell off the uncured leopard skin. A case under the Wildlife Protection Act,1972,has been registered,the police said.
