Delhi cop booked for corruption
A senior inspector of the Delhi Police has been booked under Prevention of Corruption Act for allegedly demanding money from a city-based businessman. According to sources,the inspector,Shashi Gaur,was facing a vigilance inquiry for nearly five years,following which the case was registered at the Special Operation Squad of Crime Branch. Sources said the inquiry was initiated against Gaur on the complaint of the businessman,Sachin,a resident of Krishna Nagar,East Delhi.

Interim bail for former CM of Haryana
A city court on Monday granted interim bail to former chief minister of Haryana,Om Prakash Chautala,in disproportionate assets case. Special CBI Judge P S Teji granted interim bail against a personal bond and surety of Rs 1 lakh. Chautala was summoned by the court on April 20 after the Central Bureau of Investigation filed a chargesheet against him and the court took cognizance of it. The court will hear Chautala’s regular bail plea on Tuesday.

Property dealer killed,another injured
Ghaziabad: In an alleged case of property dispute,a property dealer was killed and another was injured in a shootout in Sector-5 of Vaishali. Indirapuram station house officer Rakesh Kumar Dwivedi said Sanjeev Saxena,32,died at the Paras Hospital on Monday after he sustained gun shot wounds. “Another property dealer Siddhartha is also admitted in the same hospital and is in a critical condition,” Dwivedi said. In a statement,the victims had claimed that they had been shot at by chain snatchers. “We are investigating whether there was a property dispute between the two,” he added. The police also recovered a Pulsar motorcycle,which was found abandoned near the crime scene.

INTACH gets new member-secy
Former IAS officer C T Misra on Monday joined as member-secretary of the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH). Misra,an officer of Gujarat Cadre and a former secretary in the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs,has also held the post of the chairman in the Staff Selection Commission,according to a statement from INTACH.

Court summons Delhi’s Law secretary
Irked by non-appearance of government counsel in several cases,the Delhi High Court on Monday summoned the Law secretary of the NCT government. The court sought personal appearance of the senior officer on May 11 to explain for non-appearance of the counsels in various cases. The order came while hearing a case pertaining to property tax,filed by DIAL against MCD and the Delhi government.

MCD encroachment drive at Qutub Road
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi is planning to take up encroachment removal at Qutub Road in a bid to decongest the area in and around the New Delhi Railway Station and Paharganj. The MCD has devised a policy for removal of encroachment and unauthorised construction with regard to shops on Qutub Road.
